“For the funders who made this class possible, my family and I thank you from the bottom of our hearts. While our child initially engaged to learn Japanese cooking, he came out of the class with a sense of community and belonging. This is huge for a child with autism who feels othered and alone in the school setting. By having a class specifically for kids with IEPs, (Individualized Educational Plans) my child was able to fully participate with other kids without worrying how kids without learning/behavioral/neurological challenges would judge them. The class offered my kid a chance to be himself with a group of children who accept him just the way he is. This was a tremendous gift for us, especially when our family had such a challenging fall. Thank you to all involved who made this class possible. It broadened the kids’ culinary horizons and gave them the gift of community and acceptance. This was a priceless experience in all aspects.”

Podcast called I See What You Hear by two former students served by the Vermont Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired (VABVI) produced an episode (episode #5) called ‘Accessing Print Material’. This episode interviews Stephanie Bissonette and they discuss different ways people with blindness or visual impairment can access printed material. This episode highlights the BARD (Braille and Audio Reading Download), a free service from the U.S. National Library Service for the Blind and Print Disabled (NLS) providing digital audiobooks and Braille materials for eligible patrons, accessible via the web, a desktop app (BARD Express), or the BARD Mobile app on phones/tablets, allowing instant downloads of bestsellers, classics, and magazines for those with print disabilities, eliminating the need for physical mail, and other methods to access print material.
